N. R. Narayana Murthy recently said that there is a tyranny of coaching institutions in India, which is no surprise. Economically the share of the education sector in India was 91.7 Billion USD in 2018, which has risen to 117 Billion USD in 2020 and continues to expand. The coaching industry alone contributes approximately 3.5 billion USD to this, which is huge considering there are various types of educational institutes in the country, including schools, colleges etc. If we take time to think about what causes this issue, one fundamental issue we can pinpoint to the stereotype among Indian parents that any courses other than medicine or engineering are futile and a waste of time. So the parents are ready to disburse lakhs on luck to see if they will crack the entrance exams for these courses.
